  • This resource is valuable for education systems, school networks and individual schools committed to improving students' functional literacy and numeracy; enhancing their National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results in years 3, 5 and 7; and bolstering their attainment of the English and mathematics achievement standards in years 1-8. Evaluations of RTB's literacy outcomes reveals that NAPLAN scores in grammar and punctuation, spelling, reading and writing increased almost uniformly in participating schools across three calendar years. School leaders and teachers improved their literacy practice, understanding the value of data for whole-school planning and planning for individual students.
  • RBT can make a substantial contribution to implementation of the Australian Curriculum in English and mathematics, the Australian Professional Standard for Principals and the Professional Standards for Teachers. The interrelated approach of RBT appears to be key. It provided an extra assistant principal and a full-time literacy leader, targeted professional learning for principals and staff, and network support. It fostered whole-school approaches to literacy and numeracy and promoted the sharing of best practice across the system and networks and within the school.
